If you live in an area that gets cold in the winter, yet you still love to get out and play golf, you likely have some innovative ways to stay warm during your rounds.
Personally, I have a golf cart cover, hand warmers, a heated vest, heated socks, fleece-lined khakis, thermal underwear, and cold gear from Under Armour. (I look like the kid from A Christmas Story trying to swing a golf club)
The one golf accessory that was missing was a heater I could put in my covered golf cart. I need to warm up between shots.
So, I started researching and trying out golf cart heaters. Below is the summary of my work.
I can save you a lot of time and just recommend the Mr. Heater 4000. This thing cranks, lasts the entire round, and I am not worried about catching my cart on fire. The biggest challenge you will have is finding them available on Amazon. Click here you can check availability.
But if you are interested in the others I tested, check out my review below.

Should You Buy A Golf Cart Heater?
Purchasing a golf cart heater is an excellent idea if you don’t want the cold weather to prevent you from enjoying your favorite sport. Thanks to these heaters, you will keep the interior of the cart warm and cozy and be able to spend time on the golf course even on colder days. Golf cart heaters have temperature controls, and you can easily adjust the temperature to your liking in a matter of seconds. This feature will keep you warm and prevent the cold outdoor temperatures from affecting your game.
Golf cart heaters are usually compact, easy to install, and the propane heaters are very easy to transport. Also, they come with various safety features, with the purpose to help you stay warm without having to worry about your cart catching fire. When you are properly prepared for cold weather, you can play golf all year round, instead of being limited to warmer months.
How to Make the Right Choice?
You can choose between two types of heaters: propane and electric. To determine which type is the best choice for you, you should take into consideration the following factors:
- How much does it cost to use?
- Ease of installation
- Golf cart compatibility
Propane heaters are very easy to transport since they are quite lightweight. Also, they don’t require being permanently installed into the vehicle, which means you can take them everywhere. If your golf cart is enclosed, there’s no need to worry about the potential dangers caused by propane fuel. Propane golf cart heaters can be used safely in a closed space, as long as there’s a way to ventilate that space.
The primary problem with propane heaters is that the fuel supply needs to be replaced regularly. Although propane is not expensive, the costs can add up over time, depending on how often you use the heater.
In the long run, electric heaters are a more cost-effective solution. They connect directly to the cart’s battery, and don’t need to be constantly refueled. The temperature controls of these heaters are adaptable, which is especially beneficial when dealing with changing weather.
However, electric heaters also have their drawbacks. For example, they are more expensive and need to be permanently installed into the vehicle, which means they are less portable compared to propane heaters. These heaters can also drain your cart’s battery. The solution to this drawback is simple – make sure your heater has an automatic shut-down function.
Although golf cart heaters are quite convenient, keep in mind that they can pose safety hazards. If you are not sure which golf cart heater to buy, you should compare the safety features of different models and choose the best solution. We recommend looking out for the following safety features:
- Hooks: After cup holders, the next best thing for storing your heater is to use a hook. Hooks are also a good solution if you want the heater to be above your dashboard.
- Automatic Shut-Off Function: If the propane heater falls over, this function will cut the fuel supply, thus helping avoid incidents. When it comes to electric heaters, this function comes in handy as it prevents them from draining the cart’s battery too much.
- Anti-Bump: This feature will help you avoid accidents connected with the heater falling over when driving over bumpy or uneven terrain.
- Low-oxygen detector: If the oxygen levels in the environment drop too much, this feature cuts off the fuel supply, which is crucial in case of enclosed golf carts as it significantly reduces the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Cup Holder Adapters: Cup holders help us operate a golf cart heater without using hands and keep it in an upright position and in place. The only thing we need to do is to point the heater in the right direction.
- Pressure Regulator: The pressure regulating feature allows us to control the heater pressure.
